Ants are a social arthropod who have evolved into forming advanced colonies.  As far as bug bites go, ants have some of the worst in the world.  While a single ant bite usually isn't anything to be concerned about, you'll rarely have just one.  Since most bites come from the defense of a queen or colony, you will most likely get attacked by several ants.  Any colonies can have as many as 700,000 ants.  Once you are bitten by one, you run the risk of being attacked by all of them. 

Ant bites inject a certain amount of venom into the body, which we react to.  Various species of ant have a different type of venom, some of which are more harmful to people.  The fire ant, for example, has a venom that gives a burning sensation when it enters the human body, while the black ant's venom may not bother you at all.

With colonies as large as ant colonies, multiple bites are highly probable when you attack their home.  Ants have developed a complex society with several worker ants working to provide food and protection for a Queen, who lays all the ant eggs in the colony.  These colonies are usually found in the ground, in trees, or in certain decaying matter found near the ground.
When ant bites start to heal, the skin around them may begin to peal.  This is a common reaction to the basic ant poison.  The venom tend to cause some damage to the skin, as well as the actually injury of the bite and any damage caused by swelling.  These healing ant bites will go away very soon.  The healing time for ant bites depends on which species you were bitten by.
