Ant Bites Pictures

Ants are a social arthropod who have evolved into forming advanced colonies.  As far as bug bites go, ants have some of the worst in the world.  While a single ant bite usually isn't anything to be concerned about, you'll rarely have just one.  Since most bites come from the defense of a queen or colony, you will most likely get attacked by several ants.  Any colonies can have as many as 700,000 ants.  Once you are bitten by one, you run the risk of being attacked by all of them.

Ant bites inject a certain amount of venom into the body, which we react to.  Various species of ant have a different type of venom, some of which are more harmful to people.  The fire ant, for example, has a venom that gives a burning sensation when it enters the human body, while the black ant's venom may not bother you at all.

Of special note, the bullet ant, or Paraponera clavata, has the most painful bite in the world.  The Schmidt's Sting Pain Index, which measures the amount of pain a person feels from various types of insect bites.

Ant bites tend to blister up quickly and fill with pus as a reaction to the venom ants inject.  While a single ant bite may not be anything to worry about, ants will almost never bite alone.  With the size of the average ant colony, multiple bites are very common.  Ants on the attack tend to attract other ants to help fend off anything that is potentially a threat to the colony.

Ant bites from certain species are the most painful in the world.

The black ant is a very common species of ant with a relatively painless sting.  While reactions from bites caused by this species of ant are not too common, they do happen.  Like many other breeds of ant, they will attack anyone they feel is threatening to their colony.  Black ants come in a variety of different sizes, some of which are only a few millimeters in length.

Black ants are one of the more common species of ant, with a relatively painless bite.

The bite of the fire ant is known for its burning sensation.  As soon as the fire ant bites, they almost immediately fill with pus as a reaction to their venom.  Fire ants are notorious for swarming people, having several hundred ants biting at once.  This amount of venom introduced to the body at one time can lead to the victim going into shock.

Fire ants have become a major problem in Texas, where they form large colonies.  Fire ants are actually part of a subspecies of ants with over 280 species found throughout the world.  Fire ant bites can be treated using topical cream or a variety of home remedies.

Fire ant bites tend to cause a severe burning sensation.

With colonies as large as ant colonies, multiple bites are highly probable when you attack their home.  Ants have developed a complex society with several worker ants working to provide food and protection for a Queen, who lays all the ant eggs in the colony.  These colonies are usually found in the ground, in trees, or in certain decaying matter found near the ground.

Multiple ant bites are common, since ant colonies can have 700,000 ants in them.

When ant bites start to heal, the skin around them may begin to peal.  This is a common reaction to the basic ant poison.  The venom tend to cause some damage to the skin, as well as the actually injury of the bite and any damage caused by swelling.  These healing ant bites will go away very soon.  The healing time for ant bites depends on which species you were bitten by.

Ant bites tend to heal once the venom has worked out of the area.

This shows just what an ant bites you with.  When an ant bites, your skin is placed between those two pinchers and venom is injected.  The bullet ant, who get its name from its painful bite, is thought to have the most painful insect bite in the world.  Many claim is feels worse than actually being shot.  With an intense pain that can only be described as a horrific 24-hour ordeal, the bullet ant should best be avoided.  Luckily, the ant is only found is tropical low land, where it is still used by certain tribal groups in particular rituals.
